The former Secretary of State will draw on his experiences to discuss the critical role of leadership in managing risks, pursuing opportunities, creating value, and delivering results
February 28, 2013 | Palo Alto, California: General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, will deliver the keynote address at the MetricStream GRC Summit 2013, which will be held from April 30 - May 1, 2013 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. The summit will bring together senior executives from leading companies, experts and analysts from prominent advisory firms, and thought leaders from across the industry to discuss trends and best practices in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) management.
During his role as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George H.W. Bush, Powell successfully led the country through numerous crises, including Operation Desert Storm in 1991. As Secretary of State, Powell led the State Department’s successful resolution of multiple regional and civil conflicts. Throughout his service, Powell used leadership and diplomacy to build trust, forge alliances, and transform regions.
As one of the world’s most highly regarded and respected leaders, Powell will draw from his experience to discuss the role of effective leadership in risk management. He will deliver a keynote address on the theme “Thrive on Risk: Lessons in Leadership” which will cover three key areas – first, how important it is for individuals and organizations to take risks to achieve their potential; second, how to effectively balance risk and opportunity with a strategic approach; and third, the role of leadership in successful risk taking.
Following his keynote address, Powell will join a panel which will bring together CEOs from leading organizations around the world to discuss the steps required to build and lead successful, well-governed, and risk aware organizations. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Frank-Jürgen Richter, Chairman of Horasis: The Global Visions Community. Dr. Richter influences major business and governmental decisions with his commentary, which has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Far Eastern Economic Review, The Straits Times, CNN, BBC, CNBC, and the Voice of America.
Powell’s keynote address and the following CEO panel discussion moderated by Dr. Richter will help set the tone for all of the GRC summit sessions, which will focus on celebrating GRC innovation and highlighting individuals and organizations that are successfully thriving on risk.
“We are honored that General Colin Powell will serve as our keynote speaker at the GRC Summit,” said Shellye Archambeau, Chief Executive Officer of MetricStream. She added, “General Powell personifies leadership, and his experiences will resonate well with the business leaders, policy makers, and industry experts from around the world who will convene at the summit to discuss and define the future of pervasive GRC.”
Gunjan Sinha, Executive Chairman of MetricStream said, “We are pleased that Dr. Frank-Jürgen Richter will join us as a moderator at our GRC Summit.
