Electric Utility Selects MetricStream as the Compliance Solution

Solution to support the first ISO 9001 compliance for electricity transmission and distribution processes

June 6, 2007 | Redwood Shores, Calif. - MetricStream, Inc., the market leader in enterprise-wide Governance, Risk, Compliance (GRC) and Quality Management solutions today announced that a city utility department in a southern US state has selected the MetricStream solution to support implementation of a comprehensive quality management program to achieve ISO 9000 compliance. The organization aims to be the first utility in the country to achieve ISO 9001:2000 certification for electricity transmission and distribution processes.

Recognizing the importance of achieving the highest level of quality in service and reliability for its large high-tech manufacturing customers, the energy organization has embarked on a quality enhancement plan that includes ISO 9000 certification and adoption of Six Sigma and Total Quality Management principles. The industrial customers of the utility, many being ISO 9000 compliant themselves, have welcomed the initiative as the certification will provide a solid structure for assessing and maintaining the organization as a high quality service organization.

The MetricStream solution will automate the core quality processes at the organization and provide real-time visibility into quality metrics driving the ISO 9000 compliance initiative. These include the processes for Document Management, Calibration Management, Training Management, Nonconformance and Corrective Actions and Audit Management.

By replacing their manual and paper-based systems with the MetricStream solution, the organization will gain real-time visibility into quality metrics enabling managers to focus on improving processes that impact customers the most.

"Risks from non-compliance with quality standards include loss of key customers and higher operational costs," said Carl McCauley, Vice President of Sales at MetricStream. "In addition to complying with quality standards, energy companies are also faced with compliance requirements from a growing number of regulatory bodies that impose oversight and reporting requirements such as Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOx), FERC and NERC regulations (Federal Energy Regulation Commission and North American Electric Reliability Commission) and state and regional public service commissions. MetricStream offers an integrated solution for successfully meeting these requirements while lowering the associated costs that can otherwise be substantial."
