MetricStream's patented Zaplet technology enables email-based delivery of application data and forms. Zaplet-driven applications built on MetricStream's common framework for managing and enforcing compliance ensure that all channels of communications, information flows, recordkeeping and monitoring are fully integrated with compliance requirements.

One of the key challenges for successful compliance with regulations is ensuring adherence to laws, policies and procedures by each and every employee who is involved the business processes pertaining to a specific regulatory requirement. By converting email from a passive channel to a dynamic application-driven channel, MetricStream ensures that compliance processes are adopted across the organization and the corporate policies set at the board and executive level can effectively percolate down to the lowest level in the organization and even to external entities such as suppliers, trading partners and customers.

Zaplets allow application forms to be delivered through email such that the user can enter data in the email itself and click on Send to complete a business process task. The application processes the email in the same manner as accessing the application using a web browser and performing a business process task directly in the application. As a result, the pervasive reach of email is harnessed to ensure participation of all the employees in compliance related activities and business processes.

In addition, when users open and read the Zaplet emails, the information is dynamically fetched from the Zaplet server. This means that the emails present data and information that is current and up to date when the users are reading them - information is "current when read" as opposed to "current when sent"- as is the case with traditional email. For applications involving group choices and external actions, Zaptels enable creation and delivery of information that is dynamically updated with content from the server in response to group or external actions.
