San Jose, California, November 17, 2020: Day one of the MetricStream GRC Summit 2020 brought together a fantastic group of influential minds in governance, risk, compliance, audit, and cyber from across the world, to focus on the key trends, technologies, strategies, and challenges driving business forward during this crippling and unpredictable pandemic and beyond.
In the opening keynote from MetricStream CEO Bruce Dahlgren spoke of the importance of being risk aware in these uncertain times. He presented the MetricStream perspective on the pandemic: “For us, the first wave was about weathering the storm – keeping our employees safe, new communications tools, team meetings, networking, building new ways to keep our people safe and productive”– which was similar to so many organisations. “The second wave was really about this disruption – how do we accelerate the company and take advantage of the situation now that we have people safe at home? We’ve really reimagined our entire business to change the way we interact with our customers and the markets.”
“While we progressed in our journey towards digital transformation, the environment we’ve created has increased risks.”
Gaurav Kapoor’s presentation was centred on how Integrated Risk Management Programs are changing to adapt to the New Normal. He expanded on three emerging themes. One is that companies likely will not only look at the impact, but also the velocity of risk. Another is awareness of peripheral risk which is changing beyond the traditional boundaries. Modern technologies and models are being used a lot more than traditionally. The third is about empowering the frontline to decide and act, fostering a culture of compliance and risk awareness. From a technology perspective, integrated risk management is moving towards an integrated risk platform that uses market standard use cases, transactional data, and market collaboration.
“Volatility, peripheral risk vision, agility, frontline, and harmonization will ensure you are prepared, and not just surviving but thriving in the new normal.”
