May 13, 2015 | Palo Alto, California: MetricStream’s vision to empower individuals, businesses, and governments to become better governed, more risk-aware, and compliant came alive at its annual GRC Summit, held from May 11-13, 2015 at the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City in the Washington DC area. The theme for this year’s GRC Summit was “Maximize Business Performance Through GRC Journey.” The event brought together CEOs, Board Directors, Government Leaders, Business Executives, GRC Practitioners, Industry Analysts, Consultants, and more to discuss the latest challenges, best practices, success stories and trends shaping the world of GRC. Apart from attendees who participated at the event in Washington DC, the event speakers and sessions reached thousands of participants around the world through the event live stream and social media engagements..

The GRC Summit 2015 featured several inspiring keynote addresses, presentations, and interviews with business and government leaders, including Anne Neuberger, Chief Risk Officer at National Security Agency (NSA); David Solomon, Co-Head of the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs, Lowell McAdam, Chairman and CEO at Verizon Communications; and Nassim Nicholas Taleb, best-selling author of The Black Swan and Antifragile.

The first day of the summit addressed the latest trends and issues around cybersecurity, with an opening keynote from Anne Neuberger, Chief Risk Officer at National Security Agency (NSA), followed by a Mastermind Interview between Ms. Neuberger and MetricStream Chief Evangelist, French Caldwell. Another highlight from the first day of the event was a panel discussion on the theme, “The Future of Cybersecurity” which brought together experts including Dr. Peter Fonash, Chief Technology Officer at Office of Cybersecurity and Communications, Department of Homeland Security; Alma R. Cole, Vice President of Cyber Security at Robbins Gioia; Charles Tango, SVP and CISO at Sterling National Bank; John Pescatore, Director of Emerging Security Trends at SANS Institute; Randy Sloan, Managing Director at Citigroup; and Dr. Vidya Phalke, CTO at MetricStream.

On the morning of day two, MetricStream Executive Chairman gave an opening keynote on the theme, “RISE to Performance.” This keynote speech set the tone for the summit, and inspired attendees to leverage the power of GRC to build the leading, thriving, and modern enterprises of the future. According to Mr. Sinha, leading and modern enterprises differentiate themselves on how well they are able to navigate risks, uncertainties and market disruptions by leveraging GRC as a system of intelligence and system of differentiation to drive better business performance.

On the evening of day two, MetricStream hosted its inaugural GRC Journey Awards program, chaired by MetricStream Chief Evangelist, French Caldwell. MetricStream’s GRC Journey Awards recognized organizations and individuals who have embarked on a GRC journey, with the goal of achieving superior business performance. A total of ten awards, broadly categorized into three groups, honored MetricStream partners, customer organizations, and individual customer stakeholders. The awards were presented by Gunjan Sinha, Executive Chairman at MetricStream, and Shellye Archambeau, Chief Executive Officer at MetricStream.

The third day of the summit featured a GRC Journey Customer Case Study presented by Vernon Emshoff, IT GRC Architect at USAA; Kimberly Burnette Wood, Manager, Data/Business Solutions at USAA; Renee Murphy, Senior Analyst at Forrester Research; Susan Palm, Vice President of GRC Solutions at MetricStream; and N.S. Rao, Director of GRC Solutions at MetricStream.

Other event highlights included:

  • A MetricStream-hosted gala dinner for all the event attendees, followed by a performance from the Washington DC-based comedy and satire group, The Capitol Steps.
  • Book signing by best-selling author Nassim Nicholas Taleb, best-selling author of The Black Swan and Antifragile
  • MetricStream and Dow Jones Risk & Compliance partnership announcement; MetricStream Third Party Management App will integrate Dow Jones risk data to offer users a simple and comprehensive solution for third party on-boarding, due diligence and continuous monitoring.

In her concluding remarks at the GRC Summit 2015, Shellye Archambeau, Chief Executive Officer at MetricStream said, “The goal of this event was to provide the community, content and dialogue to help you mature your GRC programs, and build the metrics-driven Modern Enterprises of tomorrow. This is all about using GRC to drive better business performance.”         

With the firm belief that the best is truly yet to come, Ms. Archambeau concluded, “We will all convene again at our next GRC Summit in London on November 10-11, 2015, and our next Global GRC Summit 2016 taking place the last week of April in Washington DC.”
