The GRC Visionary Award category recognizes individuals who have a passion for GRC and a strong vision for their organization’s GRC journey. These individuals are the driving force behind their organizations’ GRC programs. They envision the road ahead, and work hard to champion the cause of GRC. They are also renowned thought leaders who willingly share their knowledge and expertise with the industry through published insights, webinars, and videos.

Aadila Hashim, COO, Risk Management at MMI Holdings won the GRC Visionary Award for successfully leading the GRC initiative at MMI Holdings, one of the largest insurance-based financial services groups in South Africa. Ms. Hashim has been a driving force behind the implementation of MMI’s vision of “combined assurance” which seeks to integrate and coordinate risk management and compliance with assurance functions such as internal audit. Drawing on her extensive experience in operational risk and finance, Ms. Hashim designed the GRC combined assurance model as an amalgamation of GRC best practices and progressive industry methodologies, combined into a cohesive framework, and tailored to MMI’s needs. She also implemented a communications campaign to create enthusiasm for the project, and to ensure that key stakeholders are active participants. MMI’s combined assurance efforts are transforming MMI’s risk culture and visibility and the GRC program is on track to deliver the outcomes required for MMI’s combined assurance processes.

“I am delighted to accept the MetricStream GRC Visionary Award,” said Ms. Hashim. She continued, “Leading a GRC implementation of this scale and complexity would not have been possible without the hard work and support of the entire MMI team, senior management, and key MetricStream stakeholders. I’m excited by how far we’ve come in our GRC journey, and look forward to achieving many more milestones.”

“Ms. Hashim is a true GRC visionary, having led MMI’s GRC program from conception, through the implementation of an integrated approach to GRC,” said Gunjan Sinha, Executive Chairman at MetricStream. He continued, “She is also a respected thought leader, always willing to share her expertise through various industry forums. It is our privilege to recognize her efforts with this award.”
