October 10, 2012 | Palo Alto, California: The Ethics and Compliance Officer Association (ECOA) is a one-of-its-kind organization that aims to equip ethics and compliance officers with best practices and strategies to tackle the issues that they face in their profession. The recently concluded ECOA Annual Ethics and Compliance Conference that was conducted on October 2-5, 2012 brought together experienced ethics and compliance officers and industry experts from across the globe.

At the conference, Keri Dawson, Vice President of ComplianceOnline Advisory Services at MetricStream, and Michael Rasmussen, President at Corporate Integrity, led a session on “The Evolving Role of the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer (CECO).” Gathering insights from their decades of professional experience in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), Dawson and Rasmussen shared their perspectives on how the role of CECOs has evolved over the years, the increasing scope of responsibilities that they handle today, and how they can cope with business changes and emerging risks. The session revolved around key aspects such as:

  • The CECO as the nucleus of the organization who brings together different functions
  • The risks and challenges that CECOs face in the current dynamic business and regulatory environment
  • Strengthening the ethics and compliance program through transformational measures
  • The fundamental components of an efficient ethics and compliance program
  • Establishing an ethics and compliance program that is metrics-driven

The session also witnessed the launch of a research paper titled “The Evolving Role of a Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer: Managing Compliance and Ethics in the New Era”. Authored by Michael Rasmussen, a globally recognized GRC expert, the paper provides valuable insights to help CECOs emerge as key strategic players in their organizations.

Speaking about MetricStream’s active engagement with thought leadership forums such as the ECOA, Keri Dawson says, “Participating in such forums has provided MetricStream a platform to collaborate with industry experts, share GRC best practices, and thereby help organizations maneuver through the maze of regulations and risks. This collaboration has also helped MetricStream build product offerings that enhance and optimize the way the Compliance, Ethics, Legal, Risk, and Audit functions within organizations work.”
