Before the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) was conceptualized and implemented, suppliers found themselves audited by individual customers using varying standards. This led to the duplication of efforts, and wasted resources including time and money. The GFSI, which was rolled out across the globe in early 2000, serves as a unique and standardized benchmark. Primarily designed to ensure the safety of food, the GFSI now has quite a few manufacturing schemes, primary production schemes, and combined schemes, which vary in terms of scope, criteria, structure, certification process, validity, and reporting.

While every supplier is keen to receive a GFSI approved certification, they need to first invest time and effort into understanding which of the standards or schemes is best aligned with their strategic business objectives. Other critical aspects of any sustainable food safety management program are the focus and commitment from senior management, as well as the continuous review of customer requirements. Ideally, organizations and suppliers must develop a food safety system that can incorporate the latest requirements of several major schemes, but can easily adapt to evolving customer requirements.

Join Ron Vail, Director of Food Safety and GFSI Education at AIB International and Sonal Sinha, AVP of Industry Solutions at MetricStream during this webinar as they discuss various GFSI recognized standards such as the Global Food Standard (BRC), FSSC 22000, SQF-2000, ISO22000 and IFS.

  • Various requirements, benefits, and certification processes for GFSI standards
  • Steps to adopt GFSI standards in your organization
  • Leveraging technology to manage GFSI requirements
