November 20, 2013 | Palo Alto, California: MetricStream, a market leader in enterprise-wide Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) solutions, participated at the Conflict Minerals and Transparent Supply Chain Conference, hosted by Momentum Event Group on November 18, 2013, in Chicago. The conference convened compliance officers, business executives and senior counsel representing a wide range of practices including supply chain management, environmental auditing and corporate compliance to discuss ideas and share best practices on the challenges involved in conflict minerals disclosure. Event attendees gained strategic insights on how to build a transparent supply chain, which is the cornerstone for a strong long-term conflict minerals compliance initiative.

The Dodd Frank Act deadline to file the first Conflict Minerals Reports (CMR) is May 31, 2014. Thus, public companies across industries are working to establish an effective conflict minerals program, driven by a dedicated team of executives from across business functions. Companies must implement the requisite processes required to determine the presence and source of 3TG minerals, and to publicly disclose the details in the specified format.

From profiling products and conducting due diligence of supply chains and Reasonable Country of Origin Inquiries (RCOI), to structuring and accurately filing the required information, the conflict minerals disclosure process from start to finish can be overwhelming if approached in an ad-hoc manner.

Sonal Sinha, Associate Vice President of Industry Solutions at MetricStream, shared her perspective and insight on a panel discussion “ How to Accurately Report Your Supply Chain Due Diligence, Draft Your CMR and Effectively Communicate Your Message to Shareholders, Leadership and the General Public. ”

In her panel session, Sonal Sinha shared a step-by-step approach that organizations should look to adopt, including proven best practices around establishing a transparent and compliant global supply chain. These included:

  • How to establish strong management systems within the organization
  • How to identify and assess the risks in the supply chain and respond to those risks in a timely fashion
  • Methods to conduct third party due diligence
  • How to assemble the data and draft a detailed report on your supply chain
