April 23, 2015 | Palo Alto, California: MetricStream, the market leader in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Management Apps, attended at the RMA New York roundtable on Wednesday April 22, 2015 in New York City. Ryan Rodriguez-Wiggins, Director of GRC Solutions at MetricStream, participated in a panel discussion on Risk Culture: An Essential Element of Successful Enterprise Risk Management.

Professionals from the Banking and Financial Services (BFS) industry convened at the event to discuss the importance of Risk Culture in building a successful enterprise risk management program. Today, banks and financial services institutions are subject to increasing regulatory scrutiny, evolving regulatory requirements, as well as frequent audits, inspections, and examinations conducted by various regulatory bodies. Key stakeholders are increasingly focused on understanding and assessing an organization’s commitment to ethical business practices, vigilance towards emerging risks, as well as their level of awareness and adherence to new and evolving regulations.

In light of our complex and evolving risk and regulatory landscape, it is important for banks and financial services to continuously cultivate a pervasive culture of ethics, compliance, and risk awareness. Furthermore, building an integrated and automated regulatory examination program can help manage and track key issues, aid in the creation and communication of detailed remediation plans, and facilitate the necessary documentation of issues and results for reporting and future reference.

This panel discussion addressed important topics, including:

  • Challenges in establishing and fostering a robust risk culture
  • Key elements of a successful risk culture
  • Behaviors that influence risk culture
  • Understanding and assessing the effectiveness of your risk management program
  • Keeping pace with regulatory change

The panel was moderated by Brian S. Strauss, Chairman of the Risk Management Association (RMA) New York Chapter. Other key speakers at this event included Thomas Diamante, Executive Vice President, CCA; Timothy P. Hedley, Partner, Fraud Risk Management, KPMG; Susan M. Ochs, Founder, Better Banking Project; Bhushan Sethi, Partner, Advisory, Financial Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers; and Reena Walia, Managing Director-Equities Risk Management, Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC).
